Before becoming a psychologist, our director, Irene Daria, had an illustrious career as a newspaper reporter (Women's Wear Daily), magazine editor (Harper's Bazaar, InStyle) magazine writer (Parents, Money, Family Circle, Glamour, Elle Decor, Mademoiselle), and author of three books -- The Fashion Cycle, a Year in the Life of America's Top Fashion Designers (Simon & Schuster); Lutece, a Year in the Life of America's Greatest Restaurant, (Random House); A Woman Doctor's Guide to Miscarriage, (Hyperion). She loves to write and the children who work with us learn to love to write too. As with every other program we offer, we approach the teaching of writing in a systematic manner. Kids start out by learning what nouns and verbs are. Then they learn to build sentences. Then they learn to build paragraphs, using main idea sentences and supporting details. Then they learn grammar rules. Then they learn to write essays. Then there's no stopping them!
